ACAI responds to Future of Building Control consultation
11th June 2008

The ACAI today published its response to the 'Future of Building Control' consultation. It includes 7 key points:

1. Agreement on the need for a 'level playing field' between local authority building control and private sector Approved Inspectors: commercial freedom for local authority building control teams – but also appropriate controls

2. A risk-based approach to inspection regimes

3. Consistent standards of competence required for all building control professionals

4. Mandatory regulation, licensing and performance monitoring of all building control bodies

5. A separate, independent and publicly-funded enforcement team – with teeth

6. At least 9 months’ notice of new Building Regulations

7. No integration of planning and building control services in local authorities at this time.
