The Construction Products Association (CPA) has published a draft Loft Conversion Project Guide on its website, and says it will launch the finished publication in October 2009.

This draft guide has been put together with early input from the ACAI. It aims to simplify the Building Regulations process for such projects, assisting with compliance and where applicable, offering solutions to achieve minimum, good and best standards for construction.

Approximately 473,000 properties each year in England are being extended or having lofts converted, and it is believed that this is where compliance with the Building Regulations can be problematic.

Consequently, the Government and building industry are keen to see more of these project guides produced - the next one will probably cover Building Regulations for domestic extensions (work on the guide is scheduled for 2010).
